Marketing fuels his competitive drive
Charles-Gregory Berrouet is, by his own admission, a competitive person. It's a great trait for someone interested in the world of marketing.
"I have a true passion for product management," says Gregory, as he prefers to be called. "I love to take a product, help it develop though its life cycle, see how the competition reacts to it, and come up with new plans to keep it ahead of the pack. At the end of the day, it gives you a great feeling."
Gregory has completed his first year in the Purdue MBA program, and he will head to Wilmington, Delaware, for the summer to take part in the DuPont Marketing Leadership Development Program. It's a competitive program requiring five years of experience, and Gregory will be surrounded by interns from other top business programs such as Harvard, MIT and Duke. "I promise to raise the Purdue flag," he says.
A native of Haiti but permanent resident of the United States, Gregory is fluent in English and French and proficient in Spanish. He earned an undergraduate degree at Universite Quisqueya in his home country and worked as a corporate account executive, product manager, and product and services manager for Voilà, a telecommunications company.
Gregory realized that to advance his career, he needed to earn an MBA. Purdue was at the top of his list, and he's been pleased with his choice.
"I didn't realize how diverse the population here was until I got on campus. I have friends now from all parts of the world, and it's been a great cultural experience," he says.
His Purdue connections already extend far beyond campus. "There is a strong network of Purdue alumni around the world. When I was working to obtain an internship, I was able to leverage alums at most of the companies I contacted. The career services staff at Purdue also does a great job of bringing companies to campus and trying to find the right fit for students."
Gregory will learn at the end of the summer if his internship will land him a full-time opportunity with DuPont. He looks forward to a career in the corporate world, and eventually to owning his own business. And he knows that Purdue will have played a role in his success.
"The academic reputation of Purdue is outstanding," he says. "When you combine that with the diversity of the student body and the network of alumni around the world, it makes Purdue a very valuable choice for an MBA."
