PROGRAMS & SERVICES SOCIETY OF MINORITY MANAGERS

m

The Business Opportunity Program (BOP) begins with an eight-week summer session to jumpstart studies within the School of Management.  BOP provides a number of support services which include academic advising, coaching, tutoring services, and financial support in the forms of scholarships for tuition/room/board and study abroad opportunities.  Peer-to-peer mentoring is the foundation of students' support group, which ultimately leads to our goal of academic excellence for all BOP students.

v

The Society of Minority Managers (SMM) undergraduate student organization allows students to gain leadership experience through managing projects and events from conceptualization/planning to execution/completion.  A majority of BOP students participate in SMM.  SMM focuses on preparing members for corporate America through trainings, conferences, guest speakers, and workshops that build and promote career development.  Community service is a major tenet of the organization.  Each year, SMM hosts their annual "Campus Celebrity Date Auction" where student athletes, student organization presidents, Greeks, and campus socialites come together to raise awareness and funds to support sickle cell disease research.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SOCIAL ACTIVITIES

N

BOP teaches student participants what it means to be a business professional through activities such as national case competitions, networking opportunities with alumni, conferences, and lectures from entrepreneurs, industry leaders, and corporate executives.  BOP provides career coaching in additon to internship and full-time job search assistance.  Brand name companies and firms know BOP students understand professionalism, corporate culture, and cultural intelligence.  BOP's professional development, combined with the School of Management's innovative curriculum, allows students to graduate with the tools needed to succeed in a global business environment.

a

After plenty of studying, hard work, and professional development, students enjoy themselves through a host of social activities for fun!.  From football tailgates, to intramural sports at the France A. Cordova Recreational Sports Center, movie outings, Greek parties, Buffalo Wild Wings on Thursday evenings, basketball games at the world-famous Mackey Arena, and trips to Walmart in the middle of the night for no reason, BOP students enjoy each other's company and the time spent together in West Lafayette.  Students affectionately refer to other students in the program as their "BOP Family."
