Recognizing the need for students to learn firsthand about China, the school established a partnership with Tsinghua University’s School of Economics and Management in Beijing, China. The partnership brings in the resources of one of the top two universities in China, as well as the international resources of the Krannert School. A customized two-week program on Doing Business in China was developed for Krannert’s Master’s students.
Since 2006, more than 220 Krannert students have taken advantage of the Krannert School of Management’s Doing Business in China program. They have benefitted from interaction with leading Chinese scholars and business leaders.
Because of its tremendous success, the structure of the program has not changed. Only the topics covered have been revised each year to include emerging issues in China. The program provides a full overview of Chinese economic, business, and culture environments, while immersing the students in Chinese culture. Plant visits and interactions with the guest lecturers provide an increased level of understanding.
In fact, this level of interaction has resulted in students not only getting jobs with both Chinese companies and companies doing business in China, it has led to the creation of a consulting company by former participants in Shanghai. This was accomplished by using both the knowledge and contacts gained from participation.
