Finance undergrad uses social networking to capture internship

Even before stepping into her first Krannert class, Katarina McGuckin had a head start on her business education.

The sophomore from Long Beach, Indiana, was one of 50 Indiana high school students from 28 counties who learned about the entrepreneurial process at the award-winning Purdue Research Park Entrepreneurship Academy in 2013.

At Krannert, McGuckin is majoring in finance, minoring in German, and pursuing concentrations in analytical consulting and international business.

Her goal is to work in the German automotive industry — specifically with Mercedes-Benz. By utilizing the networking tool LinkedIn, McGuckin landed a coveted internship in the summer of 2015 with AM General, the South Bend plant that will build Mercedes-Benz R-Class models in response to growing demand among U.S. buyers for luxury and sport-utility vehicles.

McGuckin explains how the networking tool LinkedIn helped her land a coveted internship with AM General.
