How would you describe the Krannert faculty?

The faculty is very encouraging of our class, which has been outstanding. From an HR perspective, we have some highly published and influential thought leaders in the HR realm, which is a great resource for students to have.

How did you originally get interested in Krannert?

I was drawn to Krannert’s MSHRM program because of the emphasis the school places on developing an HR professional’s business acumen. It has become increasingly important for HR professionals to understand the business around them and I knew that Krannert would provide me with a great baseline of business knowledge.

What do you enjoy doing for fun when you're outside of Krannert?

I really enjoy the outdoors and exploring. There are so many great areas to bike and run on and off campus. I am also able to visit Indianapolis a great deal as it is only an hour away from campus.

What would you tell your undergrad or first-year self if you could share one piece of advice?

I would tell myself to embrace the mistakes and missteps along the way. Early in my career, I spent a great deal of time worrying about making mistakes. What I have found is that we all make mistakes, but the key is in how we learn and grow from them. My summer internship taught me that it is better to make a mistake and quickly learn from it than to take too much time making a decision.

Describe the most interesting or useful interaction you've had because of Krannert and how it's helped you advance personally or in your career.

I really enjoyed the Human Resource Executive Case Competition & Conference that our students put together each year. This is a student led initiative that provides our class with an amazing opportunity to create an event that brings together various leaders from the HR profession. All Krannert students are welcome to come listen to speeches on current HR topics and network with HR executives and leaders from numerous organizations. I learned a great deal from these sessions and was able to meet a lot of great people.

Is there anything else you'd like people to know about you?

I was able to be a Human Resource Leadership Program intern at GE Aviation this summer. My primary project was an amazing opportunity to be the HR manager for the Quality Engineering team at my site. I helped this team through a reorganization by holding roundtable sessions, hiring two new members into the team, and creating a daylong event to redefine their roles and responsibilities. I was blown away by how much responsibility I was given, but felt well prepared due to my previous work experience and time at Krannert. I am excited to head back to GE Aviation full-time in their Human Resource Leadership Program in January.
