Introduced in fall 2014, Krannert’s undergraduate major in marketing has already produced numerous graduates who are bringing their creative and analytical skills to both emerging and established industries across numerous disciplines. Meet a few of our recent graduates below to learn more about where a marketing degree can take you!

Kari Leamon

Marketing Specialist
Paslode ITW Residential Construction, North America

Kari LeamonIn May 2016 I graduated from the Krannert School of Management with a double major in Marketing and Management, a Concentration in International Business and Certificate in Entrepreneurship. At the beginning of my college career, I became an Exploratory Studies Ambassador after participating in the Exploratory Studies Program where I was able to research various majors, concentration possibilities, and certificate programs before a change of career objective. I also took advantage of Purdue’s well known study abroad program where I studied Italian and Sustainable Entrepreneurship in Milan, Italy and Emerging Global Markets in Taipei, Taiwan. These programs created a passion of entrepreneurship and global studies thus sparking the perusal of my concentration and certificate. In the Dauch Alumni Center, I was a Supervisor of Student Fundraising and a Student Fundraiser for the Purdue Rally Line which aided in the Ever True Campaign.

After graduation I moved to Chicago, Illinois where I am in the Emerging Leadership Develop Program (ELDP) for Illinois Tool Works as a Marketing Specialist. ITW is one of the world’s leading diversified manufacturers of specialized industrial equipment, consumables, and related services. As an ELDP, I am placed in two 18-month assignments which provides me to gain experience in various industries while building effective leadership skills in a global organization. I am currently at ITW Paslode Residential Construction, North America where I get to work in various cross functional teams in projects such as new product development, market expansion, pricing and reporting standardization, as well as developing marketing material and techniques. ITW has an incredibly wide range of opportunity and I’m fortunate to be a part of such a humble company.

Cathy An

Account Executive

Cathy AnI graduated from Krannert in December of 2016 with a major in Marketing and a minor in Communication. I originally started my journey at Purdue University in Pre-Veterinary following my passion for animals and quickly realized that my experiences were not living up to my dream’s realities. When I made the move into Krannert, pursuing an education in business management almost came naturally. I have always worked in the customer service side of businesses growing up and on campus. Combining my experiences as a bartender, my studies in marketing and communication, really gave me all the tools I needed to pursue a career in sales, marketing, and management.

Currently, I am an Account Executive that covers MD, D.C., VA, WV, and NC for Genesys in Indianapolis, IN. In my role, I sell and promote Genesys’ cloud call center platform (CCaaS), PureCloud, virtually. Call center technology and industries are generally very traditional and operate with phone systems that are hardware-based, requiring a lot of maintenance, downtime, and costs. PureCloud is an industry changing platform that delivers call center technology, phone system, and unified collaboration capabilities for a business completely through Amazon Web Services. As an Account Executive, it is crucial for me to communicate efficiently with clients to understand their needs and vision of their project to position and deliver our product in a customized demonstration. My favorite part about this role is that every client is unique and pose different needs and visions. Therefore, problem solving and positioning the product are key objectives to complete the sale. Also, selling a cloud software is very challenging and exciting; new features and needs of the clients are always changing and require you to be consistently learning. In the future, I plan on learning something from everyone that I meet and to become heavily involved in the local community.

Matt Copple

District Sales Leader
PepsiCo (Frito-Lay)

Matt CoppleIn May of 2016, I graduated from Purdue with a double-major in Business Management and Marketing. While at Purdue, I held a wide range of executive positions within organizations including Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity, Boiler Gold Rush, the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities, and Greek Intervarsity. In addition to the organizations listed above, I was a contributing member to Gimlet Leadership Honorary, Interfraternity Council, Student Government, Krannert Energy Club, and was also a Mentor at the Boys and Girls Club of America. My three favorite courses that I took at Purdue included MGMT 382, MGMT 306, and the Experiential Marketing course that I took with Professor Chad Allred and my team of four undergraduates. All three courses pushed me to utilize my analytical thinking process in order to subsequently produce sustainable results, similar to what I do now!

I am currently in my first full-time role with PepsiCo, out of the Frito-Lay division, as a District Sales Leader in Carol Stream, Illinois. In this role, I lead a team of eleven route sales representatives, oversee the sales and marketing of my designated geographic district, and contribute to the growth of the business every day. Although I am based out of Carol Stream, I will very seldom be caught working at the office and can more than likely be found out in the market making store calls, observing trends, and checking up on the quality and execution of weekly priorities. My team operates primarily out of the northwestern suburbs of Chicago, ranging as far west as Hampshire, Illinois to as far east as Elmhurst, Illinois. In regards to my numbers, my district consists of 307 stores with weekly volumes between $50 per week to $5,000 per week. My favorite facets of the company include the culture, the autonomy, and the opportunities to grow. Overall, this role allows me to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to become a future leader within the organization and the business world.

Lilly Fleming

Brand Associate Manager
Zimmer Biomet Dental

Lilly Fleming

I graduated from Krannert in May 2016, with majors in Management and Marketing and minors in Spanish and Global Studies.  Reflecting on my Purdue experience, my favorite memories are from the organizations that I was involved with on campus.  Old Masters, Management Ambassadors, and living in Ann Tweedale Cooperative not only helped me become a more dynamic young professional, but they also gave me lifelong friends.  I’m most grateful for the opportunities I had to study abroad in Taiwan, Colombia, and New Zealand, and through those experiences, I was better able to understand my coursework in a global context.

Currently, I am a Brand Associate Manager for Zimmer Biomet Dental in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. My focus is surgical technologies as a member of our global marketing team. We are in the final stages of launching a new, premium product to market. What I do on a daily basis varies widely. I support the creation of product messaging, product forecasting, and development and management of marketing collateral for global use. One of my favorite aspects of my position is working with many different functional groups, most often with the product development engineers, regulatory team, and our global marketing colleagues. The one theme that carries through is that I am always learning. From field experience with our clinicians to learning from subject matter experts in the office, I learn more about the dental business from a technical and management perspective every day. Working in medical devices has its unique challenges, but I see great opportunities ahead.
