(Executive - IBM)
Jeff Powers is a recently retired IBM executive and Krannert alumni. He has been working with Krannert MGMT 301 students over the last 5 years on career plans, interviewing and resume writing. He is passionate about bringing more of an experiential focus on the high tech industry, along with information management, including business and IT consulting. Jeff has substantial experience in helping IBM get started in consulting and systems integration services, now having the largest business and IT advisory firm in the world. Additionally he has recruited across the U.S. and has been the hiring manager of a number of undergrads and MBA's including Krannert. He is certified in IBM's corporate recruiting and staffing methodology for consulting and sales.
Mr. Powers’ most recent leadership role was as the global client relationship executive responsible for all IBM products and services to Eli Lilly and Company. He was responsible for signing $350M+ in business consulting services over 6 years, managed an $80M/yr. book of business and provided business direction to a virtual team of 400+ globally.
As Director, Americas Finance Sector, Jeff led a $250M North America industry infrastructure practice within IBM Global Technology Services. His responsibilities included overall sector strategy, business development, sector community building, including capturing & reuse of industry oriented intellectual capital, marketing and sales for three industry segments. Mr. Powers gave business direction to 35 account principals, 4 region sector executives and an extended community of 500.
As an IT consultant and practice area leader, Jeff has assisted clients in developing and implementing solutions in the networking and distributed systems management disciplines. His expertise includes local area network performance and availability optimization. Additionally, he has led assignments that entailed information technology (I/T) effectiveness/optimization, restructuring/consolidation and I/T "benchmarking" metric comparisons in support of I/T strategy development. He has skills in project management and has consulted in several industries including Healthcare, Financial Services and Utilities & Energy.
Mr. Powers has professional certification granted by the American Production and Inventory Control Society (CPIM) and have formally held technology leadership board roles at St. Simon Grade School, Bishop Chatard High School, Marian University and the Purdue School of Technology.
Mr. Powers received his BS from Purdue University and his MBA from Indiana University. He is married with two children and his interests include travel, golf, skiing, coaching and civil war history.
