BOP launches inaugural Future Scholars summer camp

Under the leadership of Darien Thompson, BOP launched the inaugural BOP Future Scholars Summer Camp (BFS) last July. BFS is a fun, week-long experience for top high school seniors across the country to get an up-close look at Purdue University. Participants learn about career options related to the functional areas of business, boost skill sets in leadership and teamwork, learn about the Krannert School of Management, the Purdue admissions process, and financial aid opportunities. Despite not being able to host prospective students on campus last summer, over 30 camp participants thoroughly enjoyed the virtual experience and provided the following feedback:

  • 100% RECOMMEND (BFS)
    • 80% STRONGLY RECOMMEND BFS
  • 90% increased their knowledge of the Krannert School of Management
  • 90% increased their knowledge of the college admissions process
  • 85% increased their knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • 75% increased their knowledge of Accounting
  • 75% increased their knowledge of Marketing

Detailed below are demographics for the inaugural camp:

  • Average camp participant GPA: 3.74
  • 64% Women
  • 61% Black, 36% Hispanic/Latino, 3% Other
  • Camp participants came from 12 states (CA, CO, FL GA, IN, IL, MD, MI, MN, NY, OH, VA)
