As of July 1, 2012, Purdue University instituted a new policy for volunteers. Purdue is committed to providing a safe environment for work, study, and outreach and to upholding the reputation and integrity of the University. To that end, all volunteers will be subject to a background screening that will include, at minimum, a Sex and Violent Offender Registry Check. Any individual listed on a registry that is part of the University’s Sex and Violent Offender Registry Check or who has been convicted of an offense for which he or she must register as a sex or violent offender may not serve as a volunteer. No department/unit may discriminate in selecting volunteers based on race, religion, color, sex, age, national origin or ancestry, genetic information, marital status, parental status, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, disability, or status as a veteran.
All volunteers are subject to a check of the Dru Sjodin National Sex Offender Public Website, the Indiana Sex and Violent Offender Registry, and/or any other national or state registry that may become available. Anyone appearing on one or more registries is prohibited from providing volunteer services to the University.
The volunteer form can be found on the Krannert Intranet under Volunteer Verification. Please Click Here for this form.
University policy also requires that all volunteers be re-registered each year. Class speakers are exempt from this policy and the policy does not apply to current faculty, staff, or students. A change in the policy has streamlined the process, and a photo ID and signature of the volunteer is no longer required.
Further details and other exemptions are outlined in the policy found here: https://www.purdue.edu/policies/human-resources/vib2.html
Christa Jackson performs all the screenings on behalf of Krannert questions can be sent to email@example.com.
