Richard K. Kruse, Jr.
Vice President, Manufacturing and Quality Assurance
Richard K. Kruse, Jr. is Vice President of Manufacturing and Quality Assurance for the NCR Corporation, a position established in 1989 with the joining of the Manufacturing and Corporate Quality Assurance divisions. He is responsible for addressing all quality assurance issues in manufacturing with special emphasis on further improving NCR’s commitment to customer satisfaction.
Mr. Kruse joined NCR in 1965 as head of the Industrial Engineering Services department. He subsequently held a number of management positions, including Operations Director for the Data Terminals Division as well as General Manager of Engineering and Manufacturing in Cambridge, Ohio.
He was appointed Vice President, Retail Systems – Development and Production Division in 1980. In 1986, he was appointed Vice President, Quality Assurance and was named to his current position on August 1, 1989.
A native of Cincinnati, he holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and a master’s degree in management from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
Gordon E. Forward
President and Chief Executive Officer
Gordon E. Forward was elected President and Chief Executive Officer of Chaparral Steel in 1982. Prior to assuming the office, he was Executive Vice President – Production at Chaparral. He assumed the additional duties as President and Chief Executive Officer of Texas Industries Cement/Concrete Division in April 1988.
He earned a doctorate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a major in metallurgy. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of British Columbia at Vancouver. Dr. Forward was Senior Research Engineer for the Steel Company of Canada, and General Superintendent for the Lake Ontario Steel Company before joining Chaparral.
In 1986, he became director of the Steel Service Center Institute of the United States. Dr. Forward is also Chairman of the Board of the National Super Collider Education Consortium, Inc., formed in July 1989. The NSEC was formed to provide enhancement of science and math education in the U.S. using the unique resource of the Super Collider as an incentive for students to develop an interest in engineering and science.
Dr. Forward is the recipient of numerous professional and scientific awards, and has been honored three times by the American Association of Metallurgical Engineers for his research and work on behalf of the Steel Industry.
In 1984, Fortune magazine selected Chaparral Steel as one of the ten best managed manufacturing companies in America. In December of 1987, author Tom Peters selected Dr. Forward as Chief Executive Officer of the year.
Robert J. Corrigan
IBM Vice President and President, Systems Technology Division
Robert J. Corrigan is president of the IBM Systems Technology Division. In this position he has worldwide responsibility for the development and the packaging of electronic components used in IBM products. He also has U.S. manufacturing responsibility for electronic packaging.
Mr. Corrigan joined IBM in 1962 as an engineer in the company’s East Fishkill, New York, laboratory. In 1978, he joined the staff of IBM’s European headquarters in Paris where he was responsible for technical services and manufacturing quality for European operations. Since his return the U.S., he has held a broad range of executive positions in manufacturing and development in IBM’s semiconductor business.
He assumed his current assignment as president of the Systems Technology Division in 1988 and was elected an IBM vice president in 1989.
Mr. Corrigan holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Manhattan College in Riverdale, New York, and a master’s degree in industrial administration from Union College in Schenectady.
He is a member of the board of Syracuse University Science and Technology Center, the advisory board of the T.J. Watson School at the State University of New York at Binghamton, and the advisory board of Marymount College. He is also a member of the executive board of the Westchester/Putnam Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
Allison R. Schleicher
Assistant General Manager of Finance & Planning
Somers, New York
Al Schleicher joined IBM in August 1967 as an associate systems engineer in New Jersey; in May 1969, he became a marketing representative. He joined the DP Eastern Region staff as an advisory financial analyst in April 1973, and in October 1975 transferred to DPPG as a product pricing analyst, located at the San Jose site. In october 1979, he was promoted to pricing manager at the Poughkeepsie site, and in March 1982 to IS&TG manager of plan conslidation/methodology in Harrison. He was promoted to Director of U.S. Treasury Operations at CHQ in August 1983. In August 1984, he was named Director of Financial Analysis for the corporate controller's staff in Armonk, and ISTG Group Director of Finance and Planning in April of 1985. In April 1987, he was elected Vice President of the IBM Credit Corporation in Stamford, Connecticut. In June of 1988, he was named IBM Director of Fiancial Sercies on the coporate controller's staff. In September 1989, he was name IBM Director of Finance and Planning. He assumed his present position as Assistant General Manager of Finance and Planning in Technology Products in December 1989.
As the AGM of Finance and Planning in Technology, Al is responsible for ensuring planning and measurement principles and practices are in place for the TP LOB, as well as, coordination of the Supply/Demand, Base Plan and Technology Planning and Forecasting processes. Planning includes coordination between IBM US and other LOBS to ensure TP targets for Finance and Resource meet IBM objectives for competitiveness, affordability and LOB requirements. Measurements include a performance evaluation for comparing TP divisions to committed objective, while providing early warning and focus items to guarantee its goals are met. Further responsibilities include measuring resource (H/C performance, capital and inventory), Cost, I&E expense and Business Area P&L's.
He received a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue University in 1966 and attended the MBA program at Lehigh University before joing IBM.
Lou F. Jones
Business Measurements and Systems Manager
Lou Jones is the Business Measurements and Systems Manager at Caterpillar’s Corporate Offices in Peoria, Illinois. Mr. Jones has been with Caterpillar for 37 years. He began with Caterpillar in the Parts Department and Factory; he later moved into Accounting and has held various management accounting positions at several locations. Most recently he was the Corporate Cost and Business Analysis Manager. Prior to that, he was Controller at the company’s Decatur, Illinois plant.
Mr. Jones has worked extensively in the areas of cost management, business measurements, and business analysis. He is a featured speaker at professional conferences and university programs, and counsels many companies on cost management issues. Mr. Jones was featured in the October 1988 issue of Management Accounting on “Competitive Cost Analysis at Caterpillar,” and will have an article on “Product Costing at Caterpillar” in the October 1990 issue of that journal. Both articles received Lybrand awards. He was also featured in the July/August 1990 edition of Corporate Controller with an article on “Justifying and Monitoring New Manufacturing Technology.”
