Katie Haller’s dad and brother are Purdue alums. But it wasn’t family allegiance alone that convinced her to become a Boilermaker.

“Purdue was the only school I looked at that had a major in Industrial Management,” says Kate, a native of Cincinnati. “I thought the combination of a strong management education with a technically focused minor would make me unique in recruiters’ eyes.”

She was right. After graduating in May, Katie will go to work for Accenture in Chicago as a Systems Integration Consultant. It’s a role that will allow her to help clients solve business challenges, accelerate business innovation and create opportunities to drive high performance.

Katie was active in several organizations at Purdue, including Iron Key, Mortar Board Honor Society, Purdue Student Government, Management Ambassadors and the Panhellenic Association. She spent a spring break period studying abroad at National Chengchi University in Taipei, Taiwan, which she discovered through her Management Honors Learning Community.

In addition to working at the University Development Office, Katie landed internships with General Electric Healthcare, where she was part of the Information Management Leadership Program, and Procter & Gamble, where she worked in Supply Network Operations.

“The combination of the technical background that I get in the classroom and the two internships I had has given me a lot to pull from in terms of knowledge. And I got the sense that recruiters see that in a lot of Purdue students. That’s why they regard us so highly,” Katie says.

A state swimmer in high school, Katie continues to coach swimming as she completes her degree. She’s looking forward to starting the next chapter in her life.

“When I got to Purdue, I didn’t fully know what to expect. I had a number of mentors who challenged me and allowed me to grow, and I had a great experience,” she says.

“I’m excited about my upcoming role with Accenture. It’s an opportunity to work with several different industries, and meet and work with people from different backgrounds, just as I did at school. I feel like Purdue has helped me prepare for the challenge.”
