As a Purdue University freshman on the first day of classes in 1974, Marge Magner came close to turning her packed vehicle around to hightail it out of “Dodge.” Hard to imagine now—for Marge Magner is one of the most powerful women in business and one of the Krannert School of Management’s most celebrated graduates.

Larry and Cynthia Schum Scholarship

Turning Colorado Land into a Scholarship

Larry and Cynthia Schum are savvy Boilermakers. They helped students studying in their beloved Krannert School of Management and, at the same time, received beneficial tax deductions. Larry (BSIM ’76) and Cynthia (BSIM ’78) donated real estate, a parcel of property in Colorado, to initiate a scholarship at Purdue.


Tom Howatt

First in his family to attend college, Tom Howatt gives time, skills, and dollars.

Tom Howatt is the son of a Scottish immigrant who left Glasgow with his family and resettled in Gary, Indiana. Tom attended Purdue University with a National Merit Scholarship. He was the first of his family to attend college. Tom understands the impact and good faith inherent in giving.
