Bill Kassling serves as Lead Director of Wabtec Corporation. Kassling was also Chairman, CEO and President in 1990 when he and other management purchased the company from American Standard Incorporated. He served as CEO from 1990 to 2001 and 2004 to 2006 and Chairman until 2013. In 1990 Wabtec had revenues of less than $200 million and a market capitalization of $10 million. In 2019 the company is expected to have revenue of over $8 billion and has a current market capitalization of $11.6 billion.

Before purchasing the company, Kassling spent six years overseeing its operations as American Standard’s Vice President, Group Executive, Railway Products Group. Prior to that, between 1978 to 1984, he served American Standard first as Vice President, Strategic Planning and Development and later as Vice President Group Executive, Building Specialties Group.

From 1974 to 1978, Kassling held various operating and strategic planning positions with Clark Equipment Company. Previous to 1974, he was an early member of the Boston Consulting Group, served as an officer in the United States Navy, and was a first line supervisor in machining and assembly for Parker Hannifin Corporation.

Kassling holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Chicago and a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial management from Purdue University. He received an honorary doctoral degree from Purdue University in 2005.

In addition to Wabtec, Kassling is a board member of Gardner Denver Corporation, Crosby Group, the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Texas Rangers. Kassling is also a member of the advisory board of the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute.  Past public board affiliations include Commercial Intertech Corporation, Dravo, Parker Hannifin Corporation and Scientific Atlanta.
