Purdue’s Residency Format

As you consider programs for your Executive MBA, it’s important to understand the different formats offered. Online programs are convenient, allowing you to complete your degree anywhere in the world. But it’s difficult to connect with your classmates when you’re only interacting virtually. Evening and weekend programs allow you to have more face-to-face interaction with your colleagues, but limit you to schools in close proximity to your home.

Our residency format takes the best of both worlds and creates an unbeatable experience for your Executive MBA. At Purdue, we blend the convenience of online learning with on-campus residencies giving you that critical interaction with your cohort. Our students travel to campus just four times per year, so you can live and work anywhere in the world while pursuing your degree.

Your 19-month EMBA journey will be broken into 5 or 6 modules depending on your choice of our IMM Global EMBA or our Traditional EMBA program. A module consists of:

  • Pre-residency: 8-10 weeks (online)
  • On-campus Residency: 1-2 weeks of classes, company visits, guest speakers, career management, social events (West Lafayette, Indiana or an International location dependent on program choice)
  • Exam Prep: 1 week (at home)
  • Exam Period: 9 days (online at home)
  • Break: 1 week

When students are on campus, they are more removed from their typical daily responsibilities and immerse themselves in the program and their learning. At Purdue, you’ll learn from our award-winning faculty, but more importantly, you’ll learn from your cohort, a diverse group of executives from a wide range of industries and backgrounds. We know that the outside-of-class interaction is just as important as the in-class interaction, so we give our students opportunities to engage in plenty of social activities during the residency, like attending Purdue sporting events, rowing, bowling, yoga, and more.

Vish Thottingal, EMBA Class of 2020, shares his experience with our hybrid-learning approach, allowing him to live in Minnesota but travel to Purdue University for a 1-2 week immersion residency just once per quarter.
