Susan Watts is the Emanuel T. Weiler Professor of Management. Her research focuses on the effect of information and competition in markets. Most recently, her efforts have been focused on understanding voluntary disclosures made by firms—what triggers them, what changes them and how they affect stock prices and product market competition.  She also continues her work in sustainability, extending it to corporate financing decisions and the voluntary assurance of corporate sustainability disclosures. Her current projects focus on corporate governance and the impact of legal precedence on accounting regulation. Her work has been published in various journals including Journal of Accounting Research, Journal of Accounting & Economics, The Accounting Review, RAND Journal of Economics, Management Science, Review of Accounting Studies, Contemporary Accounting Research, Journal of Economics & Management Strategy, and other accounting, finance and economics journals. She regularly reviews for accounting and economics journals and has been named a Purdue University Faculty Scholar and a Krannert Faculty Fellow. 

Professor Watts' teaching interests include financial and managerial accounting. She has chaired or co-chaired numerous doctoral dissertations and has advised undergraduate honors projects on sustainability and AI.  She is listed in Purdue University’s Book of Great Teachers and is Purdue University Charles B. Murphy Teaching Award recipient. She is a fellow of the Purdue University Teaching Academy and has participated both as a senior faculty member and a junior faculty award recipient in Purdue’s Teaching for Tomorrow program. She has also received several School-wide teaching awards at Purdue. Before joining Purdue, she was a faculty member at Indiana University-Bloomington where she also received university, school and department teaching awards.
