Recruiting Platforms & Guidelines

Hire a Boilermaker!

KPDC invites employers to engage with students on two recruiting platforms.

Post your jobs, internships, information sessions, webinars, and other recruitment activities on Handshake when your opportunities are solely for Krannert students.

To reach the broader Purdue University student body, employers should also post jobs, internships, and opportunities in myCCO powered by Symplicity.

Krannert students have access to both platforms.

Recruiting Guidelines

Krannert Recruiting Guidelines

To create consistency across organizations that recruit at the Krannert School of Management and to ensure your support of our academic mission, Krannert Professional Development Center (KPDC) requests your agreement to abide by the spirit of the following guidelines. Please communicate these guidelines to all professionals involved in recruiting within your organization.

To recruit for employment, employers must abide by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Principles for Professional Practice and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) guidelines for Prohibited Employment Policies and Practices Overview.

We recommend employers be familiar with NACE and EEOC standards prior to posting positions in Handshake or participating in university recruiting events.

Offers

  • All offers must be in writing, defined as electronic or hardcopies.
  • The start of the offer timeline is determined by the date on the written offer letter.

Exploding Offers

  • KPDC prohibits “exploding offers.” We define an exploding offer as one that expires, is rescinded, or results in diminished base salary within a short period of time.
    • This type of offer places undue pressure on a student and, as such, is viewed as inappropriate conduct.
    • Adhering to the offer guidelines allows students a sufficient consideration period, which improves retention for employers.
    • These guidelines are supported by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE).
  • We also classify requiring a verbal acceptance to receive a written offer as an “exploding offer.”

Offer Timelines

  • Fall and Spring Recruiting - Offers should remain open for a minimum of two weeks after the date of the written offer.
  • Internship to Full-Time Offers - Employment offers made to students who have recently completed an internship with your company should remain open until September 30th or for two weeks from the date of the written offer, whichever is later.
  • Early Offers/Leadership to Internship Offers - In an accelerated recruiting environment in which students receive a job offer 13 months or more in advance of position start date, the offer should remain open for a reasonable period, commensurate with industry/peer standards. Adhering to the KPDC offer guidelines allows students a sufficient consideration period in order to reduce risk of renege occurrences.

Additional Employer Guidelines

  • Employers that misrepresent employment opportunities to students will risk losing access or privileges to KPDC recruiting resources, including access to Handshake.
  • Employers are expected to keep students informed of hiring timelines and their status in the hiring process and to communicate hiring decisions within an appropriate time frame.
  • We strongly discourage any employer from withdrawing offers, altering base compensation, or drastically changing the position timeframe.
    • If you must rescind an offer, shorten the length of an internship, or significantly delay a student’s start date, please contact us so we can assist you in this difficult situation.
  • We request that employers notify us once students have accepted an offer.
  • KPDC cannot indemnify employers from employment liability.

Student Accountability

  • All acceptances must be in writing. Acceptances may occur in either electronic or hardcopy.
  • If a student accepts an offer of employment and later reneges on the acceptance, please notify us.
    • We recognize the importance of integrity in accepting an offer and want the opportunity to follow up with the candidate.
    • KPDC has provisions to penalize students and remove recruiting privileges when these circumstances arise.
  • KPDC encourages students to discuss offers and timelines with employers to find a reasonable compromise to potential conflict. If necessary, we are willing to facilitate a meeting to determine a mutually agreeable solution.
