Leadership Experience

Purdue University prides itself on its ability to strengthen tomorrow’s global leaders. We build our acclaimed master’s programs to empower our students, developing their leadership skills by increasing their self-awareness through real-world exposure and copious feedback.

At Purdue University, you’ll know exactly where you stand today and how far you’ll rise tomorrow.

The Purdue experience includes our Launching Global Leaders (LGL) class, which will give you the opportunity to learn from leaders in a variety of different business fields and sectors. You’ll also take action in comprehensive courses designed to challenge you, and by graduation, you’ll have mastered these highly specialized skills and abilities. .

Leadership is a set of skills you must exercise to acquire. These skills can be put to use both within the context of a leadership position and throughout your everyday life, every time you interact with those around you. You can employ leadership skills as a contributing member of a group, club, family, organization, company and more.

The Daniels School of Business has identified fourteen leadership competencies which define global leaders. Our students will have the unique opportunity to take an assessment based on these competencies and then, throughout the program, refine these abilities to become a better leader.

Your time at Purdue will be filled with challenging but powerfully rewarding academic experiences.

You will gain an understanding of the material through both study and practice, bolstered by abundant feedback from Purdue’s experienced and capable staff. Combined with lectures and reading, the case method is widely used in many of the courses. You will also be able to participate in hands-on consulting projects, gaining insight and solving problems for various companies.

After you’ve earned a master’s degree from the Daniels School of Business at Purdue University, you will have both the academic understanding and practical experience you need to succeed in business.

The world is a much smaller place now than for business leaders of the last century. As globalization extends through technology, it’s increasingly important to advance your global capability. Today’s leaders must choose to adopt an international mindset or become obsolete.

At Purdue, you will be immersed in an incredibly diverse culture – our gifted students hail from all walks of life. You’ll have the opportunity to study abroad, participate in a global business project and network through meaningful connections of alumni worldwide from the Daniels School of Business. Whether you want to work in Indiana or India, you’ll be able to find a Purdue alumnus or faculty member in your neck of the woods who can give you a leg up in business. The Purdue experience delivers the global exposure your career needs.

How can you benefit your community or society? How can companies do the same? With increased global awareness comes a rising sense of social responsibility. Purdue students, staff and alumni alike have an increasingly tangible sense of their global impact and are committed to rousing positive change.

When we talk about corporate and social responsibility, we are talking about the ways you and the companies or organizations you are involved with are using knowledge, skills, resources and business practices to create change for good.

At Purdue, you will have the opportunity to make a difference through student organizations, business ventures, and other opportunities to positively impact individuals, communities or even the world.

Our curriculum’s emphasis on hands-on learning will prove invaluable in helping you take your career to the next level. The project experience you’ll earn at Purdue will teach you to take a project from start to finish, work successfully with team members, effectively lead and so much more.

At the end of the day, as a business professional, you need to drive results which trigger upward mobility for your company (and career). After your Purdue experience, you’ll be prepared to steer.

Experiential Learning

The MSBAIM Experiential Learning course (MGMT 690 Industry Practicum) provides our graduate students the opportunity to apply the knowledge from their studies in an applicable area via a thesis or project. This course is ideal for students who will pursue analytical-type careers (e.g. data analyst, data scientist, decision scientist, business consultant, etc.), and it is designed to polish and integrate the knowledge and skills you developed from your masters-level coursework by successfully developing an analytics solution with an industry partner.

Most of your time will be devoted to working with your project teammates to provide the answers and deliverables specified by the partner. Projects usually have 3-5 members per team and are assigned based on feedback and interest of each student. Every student will discuss their career placement goals and post-Purdue interests with Professor Lanham prior to beginning the program in June.

After student feedback has been received, projects will be scoped out with many industry partners to provide students the most customized experimental learning opportunity available. Often several students will have similar domain interests (e.g. retail, consulting, sports, etc.) and or job placement goals. Those students will team up to tackle a project together.

If you have any questions about project opportunities, please contact Professor Lanham at lanhamm@purdue.edu.
