Three MS BAIM students won the Best Student Paper Award at the Midwest Decision Sciences Conference on April 13th, 2018, for their paper on “Risky Business: Predicting Cancellations in Imbalanced Multi-classification Settings”

Purdue MS BAIM students win 1st place at the Humana/ Texas A&M case competition.
The Humana case competition is a Healthcare Analytics competition which is run by Humana Inc. in partnership with Texas A&M. Applicants are encouraged to use data analytics tools such as: Splunk, R, Python, SAS, Tableau and Microsoft BI etc. The case problem is designed to be ambiguous, similar to a real-world business problem. Students have the freedom to choose any tool they think will benefit their analysis.
The competition included teams of MS and MBA students from Duke University, Texas A&M, Rice, MIT, UCLA, SMU, BYU, University of Minnesota, University of Washington, University of Florida, NC State University.
The teams were judged based on the following criteria:
- Ability to establish key performance indicators aligned to business needs
- Quantitative analysis identifying key business insights
- Ability to provide unique insights for business improvements
- Professionalism and visualization skills
