Why Krannert?

I chose to attend Purdue University as I had grown up being a Boilermaker. With both of my parents being Purdue graduates and an older brother who entered Purdue three years before me, it was an easy choice to continue my education at Purdue. I chose the Krannert School of Management because of its prestigious reputation worldwide. Professionals across the country recognize the Krannert name and brand, and I wanted to be a part of this community.

Tell us about your experiences at Krannert.

Looking back on my time at Purdue, the most meaningful memories are those I shared with my classmates, professors, and the Krannert staff. Purdue is special to me because of the people I met along my journey through graduate school. I could have chosen to attend a different program, but I truly feel as though the Purdue graduate programs are more of a family than a group of students, and I am grateful for the lifelong connections I made during my time there.

What courses from the MSHRM program have you found beneficial?

I gained something valuable from all of my classes, but I found certain topics to be directly applicable to my first role, such as Employment Law, Compensation, etc.

What was your internship?

I interned with Roche Diagnostics in Indianapolis on the Training and Development team.

What did you take away from your internship experience?

I used my internship to further explore career opportunities within HR and identify areas where I may have a passion to build a career.

What did you enjoy about your internship?

I had a wonderful internship experience because I was able to be involved in a wide variety of HR activities ranging from strategy to planning to execution. I had the support and opportunity to express interest in areas outside of my internship projects and gain valuable on the job training and experience.

How did you find your new career?

I was able to connect to Shell recruiters through their on campus events.

What drew you to this company?

I found myself drawn to the culture and experience that Shell could offer. Their rotational program is structured to allow new professionals robust experience in multiple businesses and HR functions in the first three years with the company.

What will be the challenges of your new career?

I’ve enjoyed the transition into full time work, but there are certain challenges in adjusting to a work load that may not allow time for all of the things you could do during undergrad or graduate school. Of course grad school is busy, but you’re typically not in class every Monday through Friday for the entire day. At Krannert I spent many hours a week volunteering or working with our Management Volunteer Program to plan activities. I’ve been lucky to find some great volunteer opportunities in Houston, but I would love to spend more time giving back to the community in which I now live.

Advice for someone looking to work at the company you are working at?

Take advantage of having recruiters on campus for multiple days!
