How did you best prepare for your internship experience?

I am currently interning with Dell in the sustainable procurement function. Krannert really helped streamline my previous industry experience with a core academic foundation. In addition, Krannert’s focus on analytics has really changed the way I approach my projects at Dell.

What are some outcomes the organization will have from your internship experience?

I am proud to be a part of Dell’s Legacy of Good 2020. This is a Dell wide program that instills the notion of bettering the world through every stakeholder – employees, suppliers, vendors etc. Being on the sustainable procurement team, I am leading an initiative to strategize the adherence of our suppliers to pressing world-wide issues such as environmental discharges from factories, child labor etc. I believe what I help to accomplish this summer will lead the way in portraying to our competitors that it is the responsibility of large organizations to lead the way in sustainability.

What will you take away from your internship experience?

You can make a difference in 8 weeks!

What has been the most challenging part of your internship?

It’s important to understand that you can't cram everything you learned over the past year into one summer project.

The work culture at Dell is great! Everybody loves to help and there is always a smile to greet you in the morning.

How did you find your internship? What drew you into this company?

I met Dell at the National Black MBA Conference at Atlanta in 2014. I spoke with the recruiters and had a blast with them. If the recruiters were at all a representation of a working day at Dell, I sure knew I wanted in!

What has surprised you about your internship experience?

To be honest, I was a little worried to jump back into work after a year long break. But it has been great!

What courses from the MBA program have you found beneficial?

Professor Mohit’s optimization of modelling using spreadsheets has been the backbone of my work here. Though it was a really hard course to take, it has been really beneficial during my internship.

What courses do you plan to take upon returning to Purdue?

I plan on taking courses that will refine my knowledge of operations and supply chain, including sustainable operations, logistics, project management etc.

Dell is a great company to work for! At Dell, no one but you decides what career path you should take. This is also a great company to move functions and discover what you are really passionate about.
