Krannert’s MSHRM Program hosts 9th Annual HR Case Competition and Conference

On Thursday, November 14, the Krannert School of Management’s MSHRM program hosted its 9th annual HR Case Competition. Forty seven students from ten universities participated in two divisions. The Undergraduate division included: BYU, IUPUI, Marian University, Purdue University, and Universidad Panamericana. The Graduate division included: Purdue University, Texas A&M, University of Minnesota, University of South Carolina, and Villanova University.
Awards were given out for 1st and 2nd place, as well as “Best Speaker” and “Best Q&A” for each division. This year’s case asked teams to address multi-generational issues within an organization as well as develop an employee value proposition to attract and retain high quality talent. Judges included representatives from eight corporate partners: Dell, Cummins, GE Aviation, Ingersoll Rand, PepsiCo, Phillips 66, Purdue, and Textron.
The Purdue teams represented well in the competition. Purdue’s team consisting of MSHRM students Anneliese Butts, Raj Dwarapureddi, Hannah Harper, Claire Jarvie, and Jordan Roseman, along with Team Advisor, Chanda Foucher (MBA), placed 2nd in the Graduate division. In the Undergraduate division, Mary Christiansen (College of Liberal Arts) won “Best Speaker” and Isaiah Thomas (Polytechnic Institute) won “Best Q&A”. Congratulations to our winners and all who participated in the competition.
On Thursday evening, an Awards Dinner was held at the beautiful Buchanan Club inside Ross Ade Stadium. Over 75 were in attendance including judges, participants, faculty, community partners, and volunteers. In addition to the awards ceremony and a scrumptious meal, the audience also had the pleasure of hearing from the keynote speaker, JoDee Curtis, author of JoyPowered.
On Friday, November 15, Krannert’s MSHRM program partnered with Indiana SHRM and hosted an HR Conference for students and professionals. Participants in the conference included case competition participants, students from six different Indiana universities and colleges, and HR professionals from around the state, totaling over 100 attendees. Participants had the opportunity to choose from six different sessions on topics ranging from Recruitment, Engagement, Retaining Key Employees, and Managing a Multi-Generational Workplace. The conference ended with a panel discussion on Diversity & Inclusion, in which representatives from Cummins, PepsiCo, Phillips 66, and GE Aviation discussed initiatives their organizations have implemented over the past couple of years.
