The Management/OBHR/Economics Programs will accept copies of official transcripts and/or academic documents uploaded through the online application system for review purposes. If you are recommended for admission, you will then be required to provide official original transcripts and/or academic records at the request of the Management/OBHR/Economics Programs. One uploaded transcript from each of the colleges and universities you have attended as a registered student, regardless of the number of courses taken, is required. 

If your native language is not English and you are recommended for admission, you must send both an official transcript in the language of instruction and a certified official English translation. If your degree is not shown as having been awarded directly on the transcript, then you must also provide a certified official copy of your diploma in the language of instruction and a certified official English translation.

All copies of your official transcripts and/or academic documents uploaded to the online application system are considered unofficial and are for review purposes only. An official original transcript bears the original signature of the registrar and/or the original seal of the issuing institution and a copy of this official transcript must be uploaded with your online application. If you are recommended for admission, and are admitted by the Purdue University Graduate School, you must present all official original transcripts and/or academic documents directly to the Purdue University Graduate School upon arrival on campus during check-in in August.

Official transcripts and/or English translations must be mailed directly from a Registrar’s office. The Office of Graduate Admissions also accepts official electronic transcripts from accredited U.S. colleges and universities sent via eSCRIP-SAFE, Docufide, Parchment Exchange or directly from the accredited U.S. college or university.  The Office of Graduate Admissions will also accept official electronic transcripts from colleges and universities in India via TrueCopy Credentials or Parchment Exchange. These official transcripts must be sent to The Office of Graduate Admission does not accept electronic transcripts from international colleges or universities. Any transcripts submitted will become property of Purdue University and will not be returned.

Applicants re-applying to a graduate school program must provide updated transcripts to the online application if they have attended another college or university since their last application to the graduate school.

Statement of Purpose

The statement of purpose should be approximately 500 words but no longer than 4 pages in length concerning your purpose for undertaking or continuing graduate study, your reasons for wanting to study at Purdue, and your research interests, professional plans, and career goals. You also may explain any special circumstances applicable to your background and elaborate on your scholarly publications, awards, achievements, abilities, and/or professional history.

Strategic Management Applicants

In addition to a statement of purpose, strategic management applicants are required to complete an essay question.  Please upload a PDF document on the online application system with your answer to the following:

A doctoral program classmate tells you that she is studying the effect of research and development (R&D) on the performance of firms, but she was surprised to find that her preliminary data analysis showed no significant correlation between them. She has asked for you to meet with her to help to understand this result. Before the meeting, you have decided to prepare a list of questions that you plan to ask her to help you diagnose what is happening in her study. What are the top ten most important questions that would appear on your list? For each of those ten questions, please provide a brief explanation (no more than three sentences long) about why you would ask that particular question.

Academic or Professional Recommendations

A minimum of two letters of recommendation are required. Your appraisers may submit online through your online application.

Online Video Interview

An Online Interview Assessment is one of the components required to be completed with your online application. Once you submit your application, you will receive an email from the Kira Talent support system asking you to complete this assessment by answering some brief questions related to the area you are applying in. The deadline to complete this Online Video Interview is January 15 (the same as your application submission deadline). Please note: not all areas require the Kira Online Video Interview. Only the following areas are requiring the Online Video Interview be completed with your application: Economics, Finance, MIS, Quantitative Methods, and Strategic Management. If the other areas decide to require this component in future application seasons, you will be notified at that time.

Required Admissions Tests

Official test results are required during the application process.

Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) and the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) are required as follows:

  • Economics applicants are required to take the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) test.
  • Management Ph.D. Programs prefer the GMAT. However, they will accept the GRE
  • OBHR candidates can take either the GRE or GMAT exam.

The GRE exam is administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS). The GMAT exam is administered by the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC). Applicants are advised to take the test no later than December or January before the August admission date. An "official" score report for the GRE or GMAT must be sent from the appropriate testing service directly to Purdue University.

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) must be taken by applicants whose native language is not English. The official score report for the TOEFL must be sent from Educational Testing Services (ETS) to Purdue University:

The Test of Written English (TWE) and/or Test of Spoken English (TSE) are not a requirement for either admission or standard financial aid packages, including assistantships and fellowships. However, the TSE is required to be considered for awards that are based on teaching potential if an applicant's native language is not English.
