Market research, analysis part of F5 Networks internship

Anna and friends from her summer internship

Thursday, September 5, 2019

This past summer, I was given the opportunity to intern at the F5 Networks headquarters located in Seattle, Washington. I feel more than grateful to have had such an unforgettable experience as I entered the real workplace for the first time.

As a sophomore, I didn't have high hopes to obtain a summer internship. However, I never gave up on applying online for every relevant or interesting position I could find – and it definitely paid off. I went through four online interview rounds, all the way from Hong Kong where I was studying abroad, to finally receive a business development internship offer. I was ecstatic to start working back in my hometown at a public technology company.

Enjoying the intern life.

Beginning my internship at F5 Networks was an extremely nerve-racking process. Everything was new and confusing to me, but my manager and team made sure to help me with getting adjusted. I was excited to immediately receive two initial short projects to complete, as it washed away any concerns of being given redundant, stereotypical intern tasks. My favorite part about working at F5 Networks was the company culture – I was treated like a full time employee, and I was able to personally initiate new relationships with full time employees who welcomed us with high enthusiasm.

My main project was to execute market research, competitive market analysis, and revenue growth analysis on web application firewalls in the public cloud to identify potential partnership recommendations. Through my research, I was able to analyze interesting data from AWS revenue reports and internal research reports. Watching how my research and completion of other small projects were able to help the business development team achieve efficiency was the best part about my internship!

Besides the work, I thoroughly enjoyed my internship thanks to the people at the company, whether it be full time employees or other interns. Meeting various people from all departments allowed me to open up and discover my deeper passion for technology. I feel blessed to have had such an enjoyable internship at F5 Networks with a supportive team and variety of opportunities in the workplace! This experience has allowed me to become more hopeful for my future career, with the knowledge I have gained about both myself and the technology industry.
