Meet Elizabeth Stallman

major: finance

Why did you choose Krannert?

I chose Krannert for many reasons. I liked the idea of being a part of a smaller school within a Big Ten University. I knew that I wouldn’t be just another number at Krannert, and that I would have professors that cared about me. On top of that, I liked Krannert’s data-driven approach to problem solving, and I knew that it has a good reputation with employers.

What is your favorite Purdue memory so far?

My favorite Purdue memory so far was attending the IU basketball game in Mackey my sophomore year. I was with a group of people that had camped out overnight to get us seats in the lower bowl, and it was so much fun to cheer on the Boilermakers as we beat IU (again).

Why did you decide to join the Larsen Leaders Academy (LLA) Executive Board?

I chose the Larsen Leaders Academy Executive Board because I saw it as an opportunity to help strengthen the program that gave me so much in my first year. I appreciated the professional development opportunities and freedom given to board members to really make an impact.

What has been the biggest benefit of being part of LLA?

The biggest benefit of being part of LLA is the community that it brings. I lived in the learning community my freshman year, so I was able to meet a lot of people in my classes very early on. It was nice to have a built-in community even before I stepped on campus.

At Larsen Leader's Academy, I was able to lead the team that founded the program, and it has been so rewarding to see all of the relationships form.

Describe the major events LLA  does every year.

Our club hosts a lot of different events, and they change each year. We host an initiation for incoming students to meet each other before classes start. We also run the Larsen Academy Mentoring Program (LAMP) to connect freshmen with upperclassmen mentors. On top of that, we host a workshop series with topics like Personal Finance and Diversity and Inclusion. We also host Krannert Leads, a Ted-Talk style event where we invite various alumni to give short speeches over something they are passionate about. For our freshmen students, we partner with Eli Lilly to host a case competition each fall. We offer a wide variety of events that range from social events to professional development events!

What has LLA added to your college experience both socially and from a professional development standpoint?

This organization has given me countless networking opportunities, both with my peers and Krannert alumni. In addition, it has allowed me to develop the soft skills that aren’t necessarily taught in the classroom.

Why would you recommend this club to other students?

I would recommend this organization to anyone who is looking to get involved on campus because I personally have grown so much, both professionally and socially!

What other extra-curricular activities do you participate in? What have you learned from those experiences?

I also participate in the Boilermaker Consulting Group and Krannert case competitions, where I have learned how to apply classroom knowledge to real-life situations.

Other than clubs, what has made a major difference to you when it comes to your college experience?

The Larsen Academy Mentor Program has made a major difference to my college experience. I was able to lead the team that founded the program, and it has been so rewarding to see all of the relationships form.

Tell us about your internship(s), and/or tell us about what you will be doing after graduation.

This summer I will be interning at SC Johnson in Racine, Wisconsin, in a corporate finance role.
