Learn experientially

Most students participate in one or more case competitions. Purdue’s partnerships have attracted top-level competitions including:

  • Data4Good provides students the opportunity to use data, technology, process and research-based methods to make decisions for good problems while connecting participants to leading data analytics organizations and offering credentialing.
  • MSHRM case comp + conference allows students to compete while sharing creative solutions with business leaders from the companies that do HR best.
  • CFA Research Challenge showcases real-life decision-making in the financial world, allowing students to develop critical thinking, teamwork and presentation skills while analyzing real data.

Industry Practicums/Consulting projects:

  • Accounting Consulting projects allow accounting students to help not-for-profit and early-stage companies establish systems to accurately and effectively manage and monitor financial performance.
  • Analytics and Information Management projects provide opportunities for students to work on any number of projects - industry vertical or business domain where the partner has data requiring analysis to potentially help with decision-support, policy making, or business intelligence – to deliver descriptive analyses, built and evaluated predictive models, optimization models, decision support system software, or a combination of these.
  • Corporate Consulting projects provide a cross-functional and interdisciplinary perspective for senior levels of the sponsoring organization and address enterprise-level issues and challenges of strategic importance.
  • Human Capital Consulting projects address human capital problems or challenges and provide an opportunity for students to cultivate the strategic awareness needed to maximize human capital assets.
  • Marketing Consulting projects address issues and challenges related to the understanding, communication, and delivery of value to an organization’s customers.
  • Student Managed Venture Fund (SMVF) is an experiential learning course and student organization teaching the nuances of venture investing through interaction with firms and investors engaged in venture capital with the opportunity to co-invest with the partner. Teams of students are responsible for performing due diligence on potential, real investment opportunities and present their recommendations to an expert investment panel in deep and shallow dives.
  • Supply Chain and Operations projects address issues and challenges in supply chain, operations, quality, inventory and transportation management.

Professional Organization Conference Attendance:

  • MSBAIM faculty highly encourage attendance, membership and participation in INFORMS, the premier international organization for operations research & analytics professionals.
  • For global supply chain students - CSCMP meets the world’s supply chain management professionals at each level of career and life to foster growth with the right connections, education, and development.
  • For HR students - SHRM - For 75 years, SHRM is the premier society for HR professionals providing events, education and information to partner with HR experts and elevate their performance.
