
Purpose Statement
In the 2020-2021 academic year, the primary focus of the Committee’s activities will be initiatives to pursue racial justice and support Black Lives in the Krannert community and beyond with the following set of initiatives:
- Recruitment and Retention
- Maximizing Undergraduate Student Success
- Analysis of the Krannert School Race and Ethnicity Report to identify barriers to success and to initiate change in existing policies and practices
- Faculty Success
- Analyze existing processes for recruiting, on-boarding, mentoring and development toward promotion and tenure for tenure track faculty to identify strategies to remove barriers to success.
- Identify strategies for increasing the diversity of individuals in the PhD pipeline
- Big 10 Doctoral Program for URM Students
- Develop programs to identify and mentor Undergraduate students from Krannert and the Social Sciences who may be interested in a PhD program in Economics or Management.
- Maximizing Undergraduate Student Success
- Classroom Teaching/Curricular Planning
- Consider a required course on Diversity in the Workplace
- Provide Inclusion training for graduate instructors
- Establish a Krannert-based Diversity Certificate, using existing courses and approved real project activities
- Requiring that each Krannert Major include the Cultural Competencies I and II.
- Co-curricular Programming for Krannert
- Programming with Krannert Undergraduate Clubs/Organizations
- Provide Implicit bias training
- Strategies for converting the ”Pursuing Racial Justice Together” series into specific actions and programs to shift and improve the culture of Krannert and Purdue
The Diversity and Inclusion Committee of the Krannert School of Management provides vision, intellectual leadership, coordination, and planning to achieve excellence with diversity throughout Krannert. Our collective effort is to work collaboratively with Krannert faculty, staff and students to develop school-wide goals that uphold a shared belief in equity, respect, and belonging. The mission of the committee is to create an enriching and supportive climate that facilitates success in all members of the community. The Committee will be comprised of four faculty, four staff members, and two students. Terms will be for three years. The specific responsibilities of the committee are:
- Serves as the liaison to the Office of the Vice Provost of Diversity and Inclusion
- Advises the Dean of the Krannert School on issues and fiscal resources that relate to diversity, equity and inclusion.
- Develops an annual action plan that supports excellence in diversity in the Krannert School
- Conducts benchmark assessment of Krannert diversity initiatives against peer schools on campus and the broader business school community
- Effectively manages the fiscal resources allocated to school diversity initiatives
- Publicizes and encourages participation in events on campus organized by the Office of the Vice Provost of Diversity and Inclusion
- Supports and monitors membership policies of Krannert student organizations to insure compliance with University policies
- Works with faculty to increase integration of diversity issues in the curriculum and programs offered by the school
- Ensure that students and faculty have a way to report behaviors that are inconsistent with Purdue University’s Non-Discrimination Policy Statement.
